Introduction

Sleep is divided into stages characterized by different levels of brain activity. In the stages of deep NREM sleep, brain activity is very low, so if woken up during these stages, you will feel confused and tired. On the other hand, after the REM stage the brain functions just like when you are awake, so it's the best moment to wake up and carry on with your day.

G'Night uses physiological data gathered from your watch sensors, as well as statistical data coming from scientific research, to monitor the stages of your sleep and wake you up just after the REM stage, when the activity of your brain is the highest. That means that once woken up, you will be sharp and all set to go!

Sleep parameters

During the night, sleep proceeds in cycles of NREM and REM stages. Each cycle usually lasts for 90-120 minutes, so a typical night of sleep has 4-5 cycles. You can specify the desired number of sleep cycles in the application settings. You can also specify the latest time you have to wake up - G'Night will find the optimal wake up moment before that time! Finally, you can specify the average time it takes you to fall asleep. It will be taken into consideration when analysing your sleep.

Modes

G'Night offers two modes of sleep monitoring. The full mode uses the data from your watch sensors, such as movement and heart rate, to detect changes in your sleep stages. When in full mode, the application will wake up periodically to monitor the sensor data. This guarantees the most precise and accurate sleep evaluation. However, if you are concerned about your battery lifetime, you can pick the simple mode, which is based solely on statistical sleep data gathered during scientific research. In the simple mode, the application will try its best to predict the best wake up time, without using sensors.

You can also choose the way you'd like to be woken up. In the complete wake up mode, the alarm will be launched with full sound and vibration, assuring a quick wake up. However, if you prefer a less invasive wake up experience or don't want to disturb your partner, pick the discreet wake up mode. Your alarm will use only the vibration.

Please note that the maximum alarm volume depends on the system sound setting, so make sure it is loud enough.

How to use

After putting your watch on and setting your preferences, just enter the sleep screen and press start to begin sleep monitoring. After a few seconds the screen will turn off, but the application will do its job. That's it... You can go to sleep. G'Night!

Statistics

After you have enjoyed a good sleep and a smooth wake up, you can check the statistics of your sleep. For each recorded sleep, there is basic information available: date, duration and the number of cycles. Additionally, if you picked the full sleep monitoring mode, you can see a precise graph of your sleep depth throughout the night, based on the physiological data from watch sensors.
